Marian Curtin

Marian Curtin, B.Sc. CSLS, has recently joined the team at the Listowel Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic. A Speech and Language Therapist with over 11years experience working with toddlers, children and adolescents with speech, language and communication difficulties, Marian qualified from Trinity College Dublin in 2002 with an Honours Degree.

Her extensive clinical experience spans across both clinic and school settings with a particular interest in specific language disorder/specific language impairment (SLI). She has worked for 11years in the intensive environment of a language class for children with SLI. The ethos for her therapy is a holistic child-centred approach where each child's strengths and needs are identified, and incorporated into his/her own individually tailored therapeutic plan. The child's communication difficulties are evaluated in terms of the impact they are having on the child and his/her everyday functioning both at home and in school, socially and academically. Liaison with families, schools and other professionals is viewed as an integral part of the assessment and therapeutic process in order to help achieve the child's maximum communication potential.

Marian is dedicated to continuing her professional development and has attended relevant training courses such as the Lidcombe Programme for Stammering (2004), workshop on Central Auditory Processing by Dr.Katz (2004), workshops on language impairment by Dr.Nicola Botting(2005), Anne Hesketh(2005) and Maggie Johnson(2008), The Derbyshire Language Scheme(2007), Shape coding workshop by Dr.Susan Ebbels (2013) . She is also trained as an Elklan tutor and has been involved in training teachers on how to support children with language difficulties in the classroom.

Marian is also a full member of the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists (IASLT) and the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists Private Practice (IASLTPP) and is a member of two Special Interest Groups (SIG): Specific Language Impairment SIG and the Multi cultural and Multi lingual SIG.
